anu’s work shines with personality, enthusiasm and feeling. On her long-standing fortnightly NTS show, you might hear anything from fuzzy dream pop and murky grunge to gleaming soul and deep dives into, say, Japanese hip-hop or Bollywood, while her DJ sets can bring everything from progressive house to glitchy edits of Kylie Minogue to UK funky. Suffice it to say, you can tell the British Indian illustrator, broadcaster and DJ grew up soaking up all number of genres, and more than anything else wants to
share her love with her listeners.
You can hear anu’s mood in her selections too, with a soothing candidness evident in her presenting style. It’s something similarly emanated in her sweet and colourful illustrations, which act as a diary of sorts, mirroring the depths of her internal world as well as drawing on her experiences.
Hailing from London, anu is an established presence in both her local underground scene, but also on a more global level: from October 2019 - 2020, she was a resident on BBC Asian Network, she was label manager at Rhythm Section for two years, and, back in 2018, she did a three-date tour in India.
Her output notably reflects her community-minded nature. Supporting artists from the ground up, as well as helping put together quick turnaround fundraisers for organisations such as Sistah Space, or to go towards Covid-19 relief in India, uplifting others and using her voice to help empower marginalised people is central to anu’s work and general ethos.
